The purpose of Air Force Academy Soaring (SOARSOARScholarships for Outstanding Airmen to ROTC - allows enlisted personnel to separate from active duty and receive a scholarship worth up to $15,000 per year while pursuing their commission through Air Force ROTC. ) is to form the foundation of cadet exposure to military aviation, build character and help motivate cadets toward a career in the United States Air Force. This 15-day program (located at the U.S. Air Force Academy) is the largest glider operation in the world. The SOAR program provides a motivational experience for selected cadets to soar in the TG-10B (L-23 Super Blanik) which familiarizes them with aircraft controls, the ever-present checklist, pattern work and the perspective to earth. There is a weight limit for this program of 215 lbs. Limited space makes this a very competitive program.
