Air Battle Manager ![]()
Duties and Responsibilities
The Air Battle Manager selects and employs aircraft, surveillance, combat, reporting and data link management systems, and evaluates operational readiness of communications, sensors and related support equipment. The Air Battle Manager also plans and executes theater air operations. Air Battle Management is a flying assignment with officers assigned to E-3 AWACS, E-8 Joint-STARS and the Airborne Laser.
The Air Battle Manager is responsible for analyzing national defense guidance and objectives to create operational policies, as well as planning and conducting flying and simulated exercises to evaluate and enhance operational readiness.
The Air Battle Manager is also responsible for conducting and managing unit training to ensure operations personnel have required job skills - developing, evaluating and adjusting training plans and programs to meet mission needs, and ultimately establishing performance standards that certify ABM skills, knowledge and proficiency.
Although there are no corollary civilian opportunities, the leadership and management experience all Air Force Officers receive is in high demand among America's best companies.
