Duties and Responsibilities
Operating Room Nurses provide professional nursing care to patients undergoing surgery - preparing and maintaining the operating room for all surgical procedures, and establishing and assembling the type and quantity of material and special equipment needed for daily procedures and possible emergencies. They also respond to surgical emergency requirements such as cardiac, pulmonary or respiratory failure and hemorrhage.
The Operating Room Nurse manages operating room activities, directing and instructing personnel in preparing, sterilizing and caring for operating room equipment and supplies. Other responsibilities include maintaining concise and complete records and reports, and coordinating an ongoing, in-service education program to continually update the knowledge and skills of all assigned operating room nursing personnel.
