Nurse Administrator

Plans, organizes, executes, and directs nursing care practices and activities of medical treatment facilities (MTF).

Duties and Responsibilities

Nurse Administrators plan, initiate and direct the execution of nursing activities, evaluating qualifications and maintaining functional control of Air Force Nurse Corps officers, civilian nurses and ancillary nursing personnel in establishing and maintaining optimum standards of nursing care for patients. They also plan and direct the assignment and training of professional and nonprofessional nursing personnel, providing staff development programs for all levels of nursing personnel.

The Nurse Administrator performs staff officer duties, serving as advisor to the Surgeon General, Headquarters United States Air Force or command surgeon on matters pertaining to nursing, as well as reviewing and assisting in the development of regulations, procedures, equipment lists and other matters pertaining to nursing or related areas. Nurse Administrators also participate in studies, consultative visits and evaluative surveys within the range of Air Force Medical Service activities, representing nursing interests, training and research.
