Remotely Operated Aircraft

ROA Navigators operate specialized mission aircraft and command flight crews to accomplish reconnaissance, surveillance, combat, training and other missions.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Remotely Operated Aircraft navigators must possess extensive knowledge of flight theory, air navigation, meteorology, flying directives, aircraft operating procedures and mission tactics. As pilot and crew commander, duties include operating aircraft controls and equipment and conducting or supervising the mission specific training of crewmembers to ensure operational readiness of crew. Additional responsibilities include performing, supervising, or directing navigation, surveillance, reconnaissance and weapons employment operations.

The ROA Navigator develops plans and policies, monitors operations, and advises commanders. Assists commanders and performs staff functions related to this specialty. Reviews mission tasking, intelligence, and weather information. Supervises mission planning, equipment configuration, and crew briefing. Ensures ground station and aircraft are preflighted, inspected, loaded, and equipped for mission.
