Dermatologist

Examines, diagnoses and treats diseases of skin, and manages dermatological services.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Dermatologist examines, diagnoses and treats diseases of the skin - preparing and reviewing case histories and clinical records. Responsibilities include examining patients, performing biopsies and other diagnostic techniques of dermatology, interpreting test results and evaluating examination findings before prescribing treatments, including x-ray therapy, physical therapy and medication.

Dermatologists manage dermatological services - formulating plans and procedures for dermatological services, scheduling the operation of diagnostic and treatment facilities, and assigning nurses, physical therapists, x-ray therapists and other medical technicians. They advise on the types and quantity of dermatological supplies and equipment, coordinate dermatological services with other medical activities, and instruct interns and residents in methods and procedures for diagnosis and treatment of dermatological diseases.
