Family Physician
Duties and Responsibilities
Family Physicians maintain a program of comprehensive health for the family unit, preparing and reviewing medical histories and obtaining data through interviews. Responsibilities include assembling triages and evacuating sick and wounded personnel. Family Physicians examine patients, formulate differential diagnostic plans, define and order required diagnostic testing, then interpret the examination findings and implement treatment plans.
Family Physicians participate in surgical, obstetrical, gynecological and critical care procedures according to training and demonstrated ability, and provide supportive and definitive care to patients with serious medical and surgical conditions. They also formulate medical training programs and instruct both medical and nonmedical personnel in a variety of health-related topics, including first-aid measures, basic and advanced cardiac life support, and healthcare maintenance.

A civilian family practice physician duties and responsibilities are similar to those of their military counterparts In the civilian medical community, physicians' duties and responsibilities depend upon where they decide to work. They may work in managed care, private practice or academic medicine. In managed care, a health plan pays a fixed monthly fee per member to a physician and the physician agrees to provide specific services to the health plan member.
