Emergency Services Physician ![]()
Duties and Responsibilities
The Emergency Services Physician examines, diagnoses and treats illnesses and injuries in the acute care setting, providing immediate diagnosis and resuscitation care for life-threatening conditions, and directing the provision of such care in the prehospital setting. Emergency Services Physicians provides diagnosis and care on the basis of medical history, physical examination and diagnostic tests., and provides supportive care to patients with serious medical and surgical conditions until the care of that patient can be assumed by the appropriate specialist for that condition.
Emergency Services Physicians are responsible for organizing and designing disaster management programs, working with disaster planning and hospital command personnel to design effective prehospital and initial hospital care and triage activities for disaster and mass casualty situations. They also provide training to medical and nursing personnel in aspects of resuscitations, including the identification and treatment of cardiac, traumatic and infectious emergencies.

Duties and Responsibilities
A civilian Emergency Services physician duties and responsibilities are similar to those of their military counterparts. In the civilian medical community, physicians' duties and responsibilities depend upon where they decide to work. They may work in managed care, private practice or academic medicine. In managed care, a health plan pays a fixed monthly fee per member to a physician and the physician agrees to provide specific services to the health plan member.
