Occupational Medicine Specialist
Duties and Responsibilities
Occupational Medicine Specialists provide preventive medicine support - directing health education and control measures for preventable diseases and injuries, and determining the adequacy of living and work environments. They develop and implement research projects to control communicable and preventable diseases, and provide advice on nutrition, food service sanitation, water supply safety, sewage and waste disposal, immunizations and health education.
Occupational Medicine Specialists provide medical support to operational missions and serve as staff advisor to flying squadron commander. They regularly participate in flying mission to observe and advise on aeromedical problems, developing and managing an aggressive preventive medicine program, including the education of flying personnel in healthy lifestyles. Occupational Medicine Specialists establish procedures for managing casualties in aviation accidents and other disasters, provide advice on air rescue and aeromedical evacuation, and serve on aviation mishap investigation boards.
